We all know that the new MacBook Pro is pretty darn fast and that almost every benchmark test shows that it out performs the iBook G4. But haven't you ever wanted to see a preformance comparison in real life? - ok probably not.
Well - because I'm a nerd and had nothing else better to do with my time I recorded a series of tests that show the performance of the MacBook Pro vs. the iBook G4.
Here are the specs:
15" MacBook Pro:
Processor: Intel Duo 2.0 Gig
RAM: 1 Gig
14.1" iBook
Processor: Power PC G4 1.42 Gig
RAM: 1 Gig
The two laptops are basically identical - having transfered all of the files I had on my iBook on to the MacBook Pro.
In all of the videos the MacBook Pro is on the left and the iBook is on the right.
TEST #1 - The Reboot
TEST #2 - Adobe Photoshop CS (Adobe still hasn't released a universaly binary version of their software yet. Thus the Macbook Pro is running it through its emulating software Rosetta)
TEST #3 - Macromedia Dreamweaver MX (Dreamweaver - like Photoshop - doesn't have a binary version yet)
TEST #4 - Microsoft Word 2004 (once again - a non-universal program)
TEST #5 - iPhoto (this is a universal binary program. Keep in mind that both computers have the exact same iPhoto library)
